Oblivious that Halloween was right around the corner, I didn’t even think about who I was going to dress up as this year. However, I knew I wanted it to be classy and effortless – which meant working with what I already had. I looked through the pieces in my closet for an idea, then I saw my pretty black dress from Kate Spade [insert light bulb – Aha!]. This year I was going to be the glamorous Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast At Tiffany’s!
My dress from Kate Spade is the ultimate LBD [little black dress] that any girl should have in her closet. It may be a costume piece for the purpose of Halloween, but the elegance of a Kate Spade piece is worthy of any formal event. I obviously modernized Holly Golightly’s look from Breakfast At Tiffany’s by wearing a knee length dress – making it look classic and trendy. Can we also mention how gorgeous the back detail is with Kate Spade’s signature bow?! I’ve linked a similar dress for a fraction of the price – HERE. I love that from the front, it’s as traditional as any LBD would be, but I love the surprise chicness of the back.
I think what really captured the look from the movie are the accessories. All the pieces I wore to ‘get the look’ were from my own wedding or one of my sisters! The brooch was the one attached to the veil I wore when I walked down the aisle. The art deco leaf earrings and layered pearls were from one of my sister’s Gatsby themed wedding. The opera gloves I got from an accessory store – which right now Forever 21 has for only $13 – HERE. If you are inspired by this look for Halloween or even for a wedding, make sure to not overdo your accessories. I made sure that if I had the statement necklace, I needed to simplify my earrings.
Getting dressed was cake, but the hair, I think was the most challenging. To take it easy on yourself, I would just do a bun and call it a day. But I wanted to stay true and copy the ‘chignon’ hairstyle – let’s just simplify my description and say it was a fancy french twist and bun with half a can of hairspray. If you like to be challenged, here’s the video I watched on YouTube – Breakfast At Tiffany’s Hairstyle. Let me know what you think of my costume choice and my pretty LBD!
