If there’s one thing that I love to do when I’m  traveling,  it’s eating. When I plan a trip, I base everything on the food the city has to offer. In Chicago there’s nothing short of places to eat. This blog post is all about sharing my top favorite spots I frequently visit when I’m in the Windy City.

FOOD

CAFE BA-BA-REEBA! – Spanish tapas and yummy sangria. There is nothing in the menu that could ever disappoint me! My favorites are: Spinach-Manchego Stuffed Mushrooms, Rioja-Braised Short Rib, Grilled Octopus, Bacon-Wrapped Dates,  and Roasted Chicken Empanadas.

VELVET TACO – Nestled in my favorite part of the city, the Gold Coast, this joint is the cutest little spot with bright pink walls and the best tuna poke tacos and red velvet cake in town!

PUB ROYALE – In Wicker Park, the BEST Indian food I’ve ever had. Go for brunch, the paratha and naan alone are to die for! The samosas are so tasty and the Avocado Paratha and Gobi Manchurian [crispy cauliflower] are a MUST!

JOY YEE – In Chinatown, south of the Loop. This Pan Asian cuisine have every asian plate you can think of. The best items are the Beef Kalbi, Pad Thai Noodles, and Rice Vermicelli.

CARMINE’S – Yes, it’s a chain but I crave this Italian food when I’m at home and can’t wait to go back. It’s also in the Gold Coast and the pasta dishes are all flavorful. Get a table outside, it’ll make you feel like you’re in Italy.

RAMEN SAN – A busy and trendy spot for the young crowd if you want to have a drink with some friends and have dinner. Great for small bites and a good bowl of ramen when it’s cold out. Montou Buns and the Shiitake Mushroom Ramen broth with tofu are yummy!

TREATS

GARRETT POPCORN – OMG it’s so addicting, I buy two large bags every time go. My favorite is the Garrett Mix [caramel and cheesy popcorn]. If you’re lucky enough to be there in February, they have their strawberry flavored popcorn which is amazing!

AMORINO GELATO – It is a chain all over the world, including Paris, but that doesn’t make it any less delicious. BONUS – they make you’re gelato into a rose if you get a cone, they’ll also put a macaron on top if you’d like. Pistachio, strawberry, mango, and amarena cherry are my go-tos.

STAN’S DONUTS – Look at the picture below,  need I say more?! The best donuts..EVER! I usually get a sour cream donut and a strawberry shake. Go to the one in Wicker Park – it’s my favorite location because it looks like a 1950’s malt shop with pretty tiles.

SPRINKLES CUPCAKES – It originated in LA, but if you’ve never had it, they have one in the Gold Coast. The cupcakes are moist and are my favorite. I usually get the vegan red velvet or carrot cake. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!

FAVORITE SITES

HANCOCK BUILDING – The best 360 views of the city. You can either go for dinner on the 95th floor or for drinks on the 96th floor. I go for the latter. The views are breathtaking and the drinks aren’t too shabby either [but again, I wouldn’t really know because I always order virgin’. Also, if you’re a girl, the BEST view is in the women’s restroom [see below].

SEARS TOWER AKA WILLIS TOWER – It’s always busy, I suggest going early and on a weekday if you’d like to step onto the glass floor that let’s you look down almost a hundred floors down.

NAVY PIER – A fun place for the kids and gives you a pretty skyline view of the city [see above]

MICHIGAN AVENUE – If shopping is your forte, this is the place to be. The BEST shopping happens on this avenue. It’s such a pretty street especially during Christmas time.

MILLENNIUM PARK – My first picture of this post. It also includes the Crown Fountains and the Bean! It’s also a great place for bike riding and where Lollapalooza music festival happens in the summer.

Don’t forget to consider the weather when packing for your trip. Since it’s the city, be prepared for wind tunnels and even though the weather forecast says it’s going to be warm, bring a jacket just in case; especially if you plan on walking everywhere. We went in October and November and thank goodness I had my trusty trench coat with  me. If you’d like to read the review, go – HERE and HERE.

I hope you take a chance on several of my suggestions, because I guarantee you” be happy you did. Let me know how you liked Chicago oand my suggestions below. Was there anything that you tried I should go to when I go back?
