It’s been years since I’ve truly spent time in the South. But a vacation in Charleston was a breath of fresh air that you can’t get anywhere else in the United States. It made me miss home and how charming the south can be. To any Yankee or Westcoaster the friendly hello to every stranger you walk by and southern accent may be foreign, but to me, it’s home [add some sweet tea into the mix and it’s paradise!]. Charleston is one of my favorites along with Savannah, Georgia. If you like to see the sights, shop, and eat – this town is definitely for you.

Let’s get straight to eating, because let’s be honest, it’s my favorite activity in any city I go to.

FOOD

167 RAW: THE BEST seafood I’ve ever had. And I’ve been everywhere – from California to Greece. We ordered The Sampler as an appetizer, Lobster Rolll, Tuna Burger, and Scallop Po’ Boy. They were all winners, but the Po’ Boy was my favorite. Since I got home I’ve tried to recreate the goodness and so far it’s been unsuccessful because this bar’s flavor can’t be duplicated! So I’ll continue to crave it until I return.

CALLIE’S HOT LITTLE BISCUIT: Deliciousness in buttery goodness. Perfect for breakfast or a snack as you walk around the market. My favorite was the BLT and their sweet tea! You can also get the mini biscuits to take home – which we obviously did.

STICKY FINGERS: If you like barbecue sauce, they’ve got an array of options to pair with your meat. Hubby and I shared chicken wings and ribs. I preferred the chicken wings because I was able to mix it with any sauce I wanted. The best one is the Carolina Sweet Sauce. Warning – they don;t have texas toast [gasp!].

PEACH PIE: Two sugar cookies with an ice-cream of your choice in between. So refreshing and yummy especially when your trying to fend off 91% humidity. Get the creamsicle! It was my pick.

ZERO GEORGE RESTAURANT: Has a great happy hour, where the bartender was nice enough to make me a virgin concoction since I don’t drink. They have tastings available to try and ordered the tuna tartare and lobster roll [it’s not what you’d expect it to look, but very flavorful]. I hear they’re amazing for dinner too, next time we come back, we’ll definitely try it. Be sure to get your happy hour drinks and relax on their balcony at sunset – it’s how the southerners do it.

SWEETWATER CAFE: Total winner for breakfast before our flight out.  Hubby ordered the Poor Man’s Grits [which was mouth watering] and I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. The best part is it was literally fifty feet from our hotel.

BLACK TAP COFFEE: They had a drink called the Black Julep – it was espresso with honey and mint shaken with ice. It was like happy hour, but better! It’s a special order and won’t be on the menu – just mention it to the barista! Hubby took my parents and I on a coffee tour. Needless to say my dad and hubby were high on caffeine all day. This spot was my favorite.

 SIGHTS

RAINBOW ROW: The Beverly Hills of the south accept with style. These are true mansions, so big it’s property can cover an entire block. It’s so pretty to look at with every house changing colors as you walk by.

PINEAPPLE FOUNTAIN: Pineapple is the official welcome fruit and Charleston has an abundance of it.  On a hot day, you can take off your slippers and hop into the fountain to cool down.

KING STREET SHOPS: Only by chance would I book a hotel attached to shopping stores. Here you’ll find everything from Gucci to Forever 21, plus several boutique stores that will meet your fancy.

ANGEL OAK TREE:  North of downtown Charleston and it’s 400 years old with all branches sprawled out in every direction. A sight to see!

RAVENEL BRIDGE: An amazing bridge to look at during sunset. It can also be seen from downtown Charleston.

Now to clothes – I packed all one piece outfits, because I knew there was no way I was going to wear pants in the heat. I wore this palm dress I got on sale for $8 and definitely helped catch some breeze during our miles of walking around town. I also packed my adorable ark bamboo bag that I’ve been eyeing for some time. It fit everything – my wallet, cell, and huge camera lens. The natural color definitely complimented the rich green color of my dress.

Thank you to Plum Pretty Sugar for partnering on this post!

All I have to say is I love relaxed pieces and Plum Pretty Sugar won me over with their rompers and jumpsuits. The pieces speak of a feminine California chic style. The prints are fun and remind me of epic summer vacations at the beach. I love the slender fit of the Kitts Jumpsuit. It was such a comfortable and light fabric that I didn’t even notice how hot it was outside.

Dolly Crossover Romper – sz XS [runs big] // c/o Plum Pretty Sugar

The Dolly Crossover Romper has the prettiest print and one of the reasons I got it. I love bright colors because it puts me in a happy mood. I love the flowy style of the romper and how soft the fabric was. It does run a little big, so I would size down. the best part about packing one pieces is that it didn’t take too much space in my suitcase and I had enough room for souvenirs!

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know where you plan on going during your visit and what  you think of the pieces I wore on my trip in the comments. Which one was your favorite?
